Review - Kids & Money by Jayne Pearl
Description: This book gives parents an insight on how to help their children in the financial world. It includes things like how to make a budget and stick to it, how to set goals concerning their money and even how to get away from that impulse shopping, including commercials and advertising buys. Review: Starting our children at an early age down that financial road is a must today. Finding a way to do that can be difficult and frustrating. This book is a great way to begin that journey. I really like the ideas in this book. It starts by giving insight into ways you can help your child learn the importance of a budget. Budgets are so easy to make, use for a month and then forget about. With the ideas in this book you can help your children learn what a budget is, it's importance and how to come up with one they will stick to and use for the rest of their lives. Another thing I really like about this book is that it explains about those commercials we all cringe at when we see - the dreaded infomercials and toy commercials. Children love those types of commercials and can be taken in by them very easily, after all, that is what the advertisers want to happen. With this book, children can learn why those commercials take us in, why they shouldn't and how to keep from being overwhelmed by them. It also covers impulse spending and how it can destroy finances in no time. It gives children ideas and the means to stop impulse spending. By setting goals for their money, they can accomplish a financial future that will work for them for the rest of their lives. Learning to save and invest is also a part of this book. Your child will get their first look at what a CD is, about the stock market and the differences in interest. I also like the reference guide in the back of the book. It lists over 50 resources that you and your children can go to online to educate yourselves about finances and saving those hard earned dollars. These sites are all very informative and give you a choice as to how you want to educate your child in the money world. If you're looking for an easy to read and understand way to begin teaching your child about the world of finance, this book is a must. Getting the skinny on their money is a must at an early age for kids and this book will help you start your child on a financial future that will grow with them.
